Plan for Maintenance, Operation and Control of Air Conditioning Systems. Understand the importance of PMOC

The Maintenance, Operation and Control Plan, known as PMOC, is a law created on 05/01/1998 and its objective is the preventive and corrective maintenance of air conditioning systems and equipment in public and private companies in environments with a certain number of of occupants and that artificially present a thermal load equal to or greater than 60.000 BTUs.

The PMOC also applies to air-conditioned environments with restricted use, such as laboratories or hospitals, for example, which, in addition to the PMOC, will also comply with the regulations in force for each segment.

This maintenance takes place in installations and equipment of ambient air conditioning systems. It aims to eliminate or minimize potential risks to occupants' health.

The obligation does not depend on whether the air conditioning equipment is of the split, window or central type. The inspection bodies that will verify the maintenance conditions of this equipment are the National Health Surveillance Agency - ANVISA and the Labor Department.

A plan will be determined with the number of occupants for each air-conditioned environment, the thermal load to be stipulated on each equipment and dates for verification and execution of technical corrections at each air-conditioning point.

The PMOC is a mandatory law, but there is some difficulty in understanding and especially how to provide it. Fines can range from BRL 2.000,00 (two thousand reais) to BRL 1,5 million, depending on the degree of risk, recurrence and size of the establishment.

The implementation of the Air Conditioning Systems Maintenance, Operation and Control Program, in addition to ensuring that fines and penalties are not applied, guarantees a series of benefits for your company:

  • Improved air quality in climate-controlled environments and reduces potential risks to occupants' health;
  • Greater efficiency of air conditioning equipment;
  • Reduction of energy consumption;
  • Reduction in maintenance costs;
  • Extends the life of equipment and components.
